Spelling Clouds®

For over ten years, hundreds of children in schools across Australia explored words to discover every possible spelling choice. They mapped words to show the graphemes and thought carefully about the sounds. Whenever they found a new spelling that appeared in at least two words, it was added to the collection. Miss Emma would then write them a poem to celebrate.

Some spellings are unique, found only in one word. These remain on the outside of the Spelling Cloud, such as the /wo/ in two or the /ach/ in yacht.
 

This is how the Spelling Clouds® grew, created through the curiosity and discoveries of children. Even within the 10 day plan you will find that the children are drawn to the Speech Sound Wall! They will start to recognise the Speech Sound Monsters®, and learn where their Spelling Clouds® are located. They are organised to align with the GPC teaching order.
